Fox continues to do anything it can to destroy progress in this country and this article is an example. Yes, it looks all "scholarly" to list web sites and other so called documentation, but it basically attempts, as Fox usually does, to use fear to scare folks, especially less bright, elderly, poorly educated viewers/readers who make up most of Fox supporters, in a thinly veiled attempt to turn public opinion against ANYTHING that is progressive and/or Democratic . 75%!!! of Americans support a government backed health insurance plan, even though I just heard a Fox "noise"maker say, in a matter of fact voice, that the plan is is "serious trouble".Amazing, huh? Well, back in your cave and worst of luck in your attempt to sabatoge progress so the mega rich can get richer and I'll delete your sorry ass network from my home system and refuse to do any business w/anyone who has your station on. Peace. P.S. Excuse my lack of typing skills.

This is a great article. Not everyone wants health coverage for whatever reason they may have. Let the people be, Obama!

Thanks for this post. I did read somethings before this....our president is just looking to take over everything.....make everything government controlled. It has nothing to do with the healthcare crisis right now...this has to do with OBAMA wanted to try to get the illegals healthcare so they vote for him.....NOT GOING TO WORK..

This is by far the best breakdown of the health insurance/care situation that I have seen. Thank you very much for the investigative work. You wield great powers of the lost art. You are impressive. Please continue to push the facts into the public eye and push hyperbole into oblivion.

Now lets see if ABC uses any of this data when they talk to Obama. Highly unlikely

This is bar none the best breakdown of the situation I have yet to see. Thank you for the investigative work. Thank you very much. Please continue to brink the facts to the forefront and push the hyperbole to the back of the bus.

Interesting article. I have used and heard about healthcare in Asian countries and it is better than American healthcare. I am a US citizen but they treated me too. It costs five US dollars to get wisdom teeth removed, takes about a twenty minute wait and is painless. In the US, it costs many multiples of that, takes many days, sometimes months before appointments are ready and hurts a lot because the dentists are either poorly trained or don't care about their patients. Think about it, in Asia, doctors enter Medical or Dental school much earlier and don't have to waste as much time in undergrad. It will only hurt America in the long run if you do not pass universal healthcare as every industrialized nation has done. Just like: Not heavily regulating mileage standards. People are too broke now to drive SUV's because gas is too expensive. Not regulating financial companies--long term capital, Enron, today This is akin to a student not taking hard classes in college because they are too hard and that they want a high gpa. When the student graduates they will have a high gpa but will have wasted their time. If we don't suffer in the short term, we will be in big trouble in the long term. Go out and travel a bit.

The Obama administration playing fast and loose with stats to ram another goverment program down our throats. Is anyone surprised??

Not surprising you only covered the 'myths' regarding the President's plan and not one myth of his critics. I'll list them for you so you can write a follow up piece (I won't hold my breath).: -Our health care would be rationed -Democrat senators would make choices instead of Doctor -More people insured would lead to less quality of care (i.e. somehow Doctors become less smart, and all of a sudden pills stop working). -We would all of a sudden have an entity standing in between you and your doctor (we already have that with insurance companies). -A family of 4 with income of $65,000 could actually afford the high premiums to purchase health care -*Nearly one out of three, 30%, will be offered, but will decline, coverage from an employer. *Nearly one out of five, 18%, will be eligible for, but not enrolled in Medicaid; and *More than one out of seven, 17%, will have family income above 300% of the poverty level (about $65,000 for a family of four): The myth being here that they choose to deny themselves coverage for the hell of it, instead because they can't afford it. Liz, can't wait for your article on Obama's critics myths.

While it started out clearly enough, I became confused when she went from comparing how statistics are done in different countries to talking about obesity, teen pregnancy, and so on. What ws that compared to? Also, thinking about it, does this mean that the Center for Disease Control is lying to the American people and shouldn't be believed? Was the swine flu stuff a lie too? And what about folks who have gone bankrupt from healthcare bills? Hasn't that happened? And I think I read somewhere that people without health insurance are less healthy than those with it. My big fear is getting an illness where my insurance will not be renewed. What about that? Do I go to an emergency room or have to get welfare so I can get Medicaid and pay for drugs? It's all pretty frightening.

The biggest myth is that government-paid health insurance can't do the job better than profit-driven private companies. We don't need government-run health care, just government-paid insurance. We can't afford to reward insurance companies that price people out of the market who are more likely to use services, that deny coverage to anyone who has been sick before, that only see suffering and disease as an opportunity for profit, that bribe our elected officials to maintain the status quo. They must go.

Really good piece, I especially liked the inclusion of links to supporting documents and reports, but I noticed the first half of the article is a bit thin on links - I'd be interested in a pointer to the reports from the Congressional Budget Office, Blue Cross-Blue Shield and Georgetown University that dispell the second myth "About 46 mn Americans lack access to health insurance.” Thanks!

As an emergency room physician I would like to point out that emergency rooms are misused when they are felt to be a source of health care for the uninsured. Emergency rooms are no substitute for having a personal physician relationship. There is no continuity of care and those with true emergencies have their care compromised by the large loads of patients. There is no more wasteful place to receive care than the emergency room largely because the patient's personal histories are often sketchy, they don't know their medicines, they don't recall their past history and they see a new physician at each visit which means many more tests are done than if the patient saw someone who actually knew them. Also, from personal experience, health insurance companies last interest is in covering medical expenses. Payment is delayed, avoided, coverage is obfuscated. Insurance companies first interest is raking off the profit which helps no-one except fat cats and share holders.

You are a liar. Enough said.

Well dammit Fox stop telling the truth. Didn’t you guys get the memo, 46 million poor people are being deliberately kept from receiving medical care by a greedy rich white conspiracy of Republicans, insurance companies and hospital conglomerates. I mean its been there all the time, the solution to our problems, Obama the Munificent just needed to enlighten us, a few tweaks here and there and all will be well ...and oh you can keep your current coverage folks, remember that. Here comes the 20 something regulars posting now as per instructions from the local Axelrod field office...Bush, Rich, Poor...yak yak, I am a robot...Hope and Change 01/20/2013 End of an Error

Very informative ~ it's why I tune in to Foxbusiness.com ~ revealing the data that is compiled and how it is interpreted is enlightening. Please keep up this coverage and continue to inform us of the real story behind health care, health insurance, and those who may be choosing to opt out of health insurance. Brian Sullivan's piece was equally informative. Keep up the good work!
